Elohim Shomri (God Who Protects)
A protector refers to someone who protects something or someone. However, another meaning is that a Protector is a Regent. A Regent is put in charge of a Kingdom in the incapacity of the Sovereign.
We are likened to a Kingdom with incapacity. So many times, you can be uncertain of how events unfold. We are not capable of taking care of ourselves. We can’t guarantee we can make ourselves safe, but one thing we are sure of is we have a Regent—a Protector, Elohim Shomri, our God.
The Lord Himself watches over me, and He is my “protective shade” (Psalms 121:5). A shade shields a person from harsh weather conditions. If it’s hot, it provides that cool shade; if it’s raining, it shields you from the rain. It is the same with our Father; no matter what trials come our way, we are shielded.
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want (Psalms 23:1). A Shepherd has the well-being of his sheep at heart. The burden of safety lies on His shoulders. Likewise, the same concern for our safety is upon God. He makes sure we are protected and preserved.
The Bible tells us the name of the Lord is our Strong Tower; the righteous run to it and are made safe (Proverbs 18:10). There is no place where we are protected except in Jesus.
You may feel unprotected and without any strength at some point. The Lord is our Refuge and our Fortress, our Stronghold in times of need (Psalms 46). No matter how scary a situation you may find yourself in, remember the Lord is Elohim Shomri, your Protector now and forevermore.
